Our board of directors is representative of the community we serve. The majority of our members have first-hand knowledge of poverty as stated in our bylaws. Our board is made up of people from all over the state of West Virginia who are interested in creating positive change and fighting for economic and social justice. We are always looking for a few good people to serve on our board.

What are you looking for in a board member?
Someone who knows about welfare and poverty issues
Someone who is committed to DAWG, our mission, and values
Someone who respects people in poverty and their ability to speak for themselves
The majority of members have to be current or former public assistance recipients or people living in poverty so that the voice of the people is heard. (Public assistance is WVWorks-welfare check, childcare subsidy, medical card, SSI, SSD, HUD,public housing food stamps/EBT card, CHIPs, WIC, Headstart)
Someone who is willing to work together to reach our goals
Someone who lives in West VirginiaWe are especailly interested in finding Headstart parents, public housing residents, college students, WVWorks recipients,members from religious communities, minimum wage workers,parents recieving child care assistance, and people living in Southern West virginia.
Can I still be on the board if I am not a public assistance recipient? Yes, if you are not a public assistance recipient you can still serve on the Board of Directors. We welcome anyone who has a commitment to DAWG, our mission, and our values to submit an interst form. What if I have never been on a board of directors?
Don't worry; many of our current board members have never served as a board member before.
What do I have to do if I am elected to the board of directors?
Attend and participate in meetings
Attend and participate in special events
Let us know what your community needs and how DAWG can work with your community
Help in fundraising or volunteer to help out in the organization when needed Let your community know about our work
Why should I apply to be on the board of directors?
D.A.W.G. is the only welfare/poverty advocacy group in West Virginia that is working on these issues from the perspective of the people affected by these issues. The staff and many of the board members have been on public assistance or lived in poverty. By serving on the board, you can help us make sure all the voices of people affected by poverty issues are heard.
What do I need to do if I am interested in serving on the board of directors?
Just download the form above fill it our and email it to DAWG or contact us and we can send you a form in the regular mail.
Please note, it can take three months or more before you are notified if selected to serve on the Board of Directors as our meetings are quarterly(four times a year). |
